School Safety

A Commitment to Safe, Thriving Schools

Our schools are not just buildings—they are vibrant communities filled with future leaders, dedicated educators, and families who trust us to protect them. School safety is more than putting a badge at the door; it is about training, empowerment, and relationship-building that prevents tragedy before it happens and gives every student a path to success.

Equipping School Resource Officers With Excellence

School Resource Officers (SROs) are on the front lines of campus safety. They do more than respond to emergencies—they build trust, defuse conflict, and serve as mentors.

As Sheriff, I will ensure SROs receive advanced, ongoing training in:

  • Active-threat response and school-specific tactical scenarios

  • Youth mental health awareness and intervention

  • Trauma-informed policing and conflict resolution

  • Building positive relationships with students, staff, and families

Strengthening Partnerships That Support Students

Collaboration between the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office and the Superintendent’s Office is essential to keeping our schools safe. Together, we will:

  • Build early-intervention and mentorship programs

  • Host in-school presentations on decision-making, peer pressure, and life skills

  • Improve joint training and communication between educators and law enforcement

  • Lead outreach initiatives that connect students with deputies as role models—not just enforcers

Building Trust Through Early Engagement

Placing trained SROs in early education schools creates positive, consistent interactions between young students and law enforcement. These relationships help:

  • Teach essential life skills

  • Identify risky behaviors early

  • Prevent small problems from turning into serious consequences

Trust built early can last a lifetime.

A Proactive Approach to School Safety

Our role in schools must go beyond enforcement. Deputies can plant seeds of respect, resilience, and responsibility—reducing crime long before it begins. We must be proactive, not reactive.

The safety of our children is sacred. If we fail to protect them, nothing else we do matters.
